JHA Employment, Training Program Celebrates new Graduates<\/b><\/p>\n

The Johnstown Housing Authority’s Employment and Training Program celebrated eight graduates of the program’s second associate who got in a brand-new stage of life Friday.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The event at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College in Richland Township marked a clean slate for the graduates, who are set to look for additional education or employment in the Johnstown area, stated JHA Executive Director Mike Alberts.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For the past 4 months, those registered in the program finished courses provided by a collaboration amongst Penn Highlands, Johnstown Area Regional Industries and PA CareerLink.<\/p>\n

The program included courses offered at Johnstown public housing community spaces to get rid of participants’ transport barriers.<\/p>\n

The curriculum included dispute management, task search and interview skills, Microsoft Word and Excel, and life abilities management, along with school outing for a robotics bootcamp and trips of technology-based production business including Kitron and Compass Systems.<\/p>\n

The ceremony Friday commemorated the 8 graduates of the program while acknowledging dozens more who registered, but opted out after finding work or other further education opportunities along the way.<\/p>\n

JARI Director of Workforce Development Dave Grimaldi stated members of the program’s second associate have advanced to further education at Penn Highlands or other location schools for certification in fields including HVAC, emergency situation medicine and cybersecurity. The program is offered at no charge to individuals and finished its very first cohort in June. After Friday’s graduation, 2 more associates are scheduled, Grimaldi said. The program was started by previous JARI Workforce<\/a> Development Director Debra Balog and<\/p>\n

PA CareerLink Cambria County website administrator employment<\/a> Jeff Dick.”This was among the best ideas we’ve had for finding quality staff members for companies in the location,”Balog stated.”We developed the idea of dealing with our public housing systems due to the fact that numerous individuals had transportation and kid care barriers that kept them from accessing resources beyond Johnstown’s public real estate.” U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Pittsburgh Field Office Director Michael Horvath said the program has helped individuals”<\/p>\n

raise themselves up and get them connected. “He congratulated the graduates and the partners who made the program possible. The program has earned HUD recognition as a best practice, a recognition offered to one authority every year for specifically improving the lives of its homeowners, Alberts said. The graduates received certificates and a standing ovation from friends and family in participation, in addition to Cambria County Commissioner Thomas Chernisky, Cambria Regional Chamber of Commerce President Amy Bradley and representatives from U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s office. Fetterman, D-Pa., and former U.S. Sen.
